Tutorials

Tutorial 1 : Hands-on SysML Modeling with MagicGrid

Date: September 26, 2024

Time: 09:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Location: Rose Room, Level 1, York Hotel

You know SysML, but still don't understand how to apply it to systems engineering, e.g., which views to build and in what sequence.  You use SysML, but still feel that there could be a more efficient way of doing so. You've heard of or used Cameo, and how amazing it is, but you haven't fully grasped it.

In this tutorial you will learn how to apply SysML and MagicGrid V2 to specify the architecture of a complex system. The objectives of the tutorial are:

- Learn the modeling workflow defined by the MagicGrid
- Learn what SysML elements and views to use in each step of the workflow
- Learn how to organize the system model according to the level of detail
- Get introduced to CATIA Magic software for model-base systems engineering (MBSE)

Tutorial 2 : Digital Continuity: Small Steps for Systems Engineers, Giant Leaps for Organizations

Date: September 26, 2024

Time: 01:00 AM - 05:00 PM

Location: Rose Room, Level 1, York Hotel

Digital continuity ensures all digital artifacts are integrated and accessible throughout a project's lifecycle. Moving from Excel and Word to specialized digital platforms is the first step to enhance efficiency and traceability in systems engineering.

The tutorial revolves around the first steps of the digital engineering journey.  It starts with importing requirements from Excel into a requirements management solution, allowing for easy editing and organization. Import verification artifacts such as test cases from Word into a test management solution, and link these artifacts to the corresponding requirements for traceability. It then shows how to manage changes effectively throughout the project. In the early stages, use version control and change tracking features. In the later stage implementing change control boards and baselining. It concludes with focusing on the reuse of such artifacts, by establishing a repository for reusable artifacts like requirements and test cases. Import and adapt these artifacts for new projects, continuously updating and reviewing the repository.

Transitioning to digital engineering improves systems engineering processes, leading to better outcomes and increased efficiency. The aim of this tutorial is to show the importance of embracing digital continuity to stay competitive and deliver high-quality systems.

Lunch & Learn

Lunch & Learn #1: No MBSE without ModSim Modeling and Simulation in a SE context

Presenter: Klaus Krohne (Dassault Systemes)

Since Model Based Systems Engineering has become the best practice for complex design processes, we have been using 1D models for the definition and validation of requirements. Those models are relatively easy to obtain and can execute fast, but they can lack fidelity when designing with low margins or when facing high pressure on efficiency and sustainability.

High fidelity 3D Models on the other hand can be difficult or time consuming to create and take a long time to evaluate. With ModSim we remove the model build complexity and AI / ML will bring the evaluation times to near zero. This will for the first time allow to truly left shift the use of high-fidelity 3D models in the Design Process.

Lunch & Learn #2: Engineering Lifecycle Management (ELM): Digital Continuity in action!

Presenter: Marco Forlingieri (IBM)

Engineering Lifecycle Management (ELM) facilitates the integration of systems engineering processes, including requirements management, system architecture, and validation, ensuring traceability and collaboration across complex projects. This talk will explore real customer cases where ELM has been successfully implemented to drive efficiency and reduce risk. Additionally, we will discuss AI use cases that improve and optimize engineering activities, such as enhancing good requirements creation, automating test case generation, and refining system design through advanced data insights.
