International Symposium on Systems Engineering is coming to Detroit in June

Jun 7, 2022, 12:51 PM by Honor Lind

SAN DIEGO (
07 Jun 2022) – Systems Engineers and those interested in systems approaches of all kinds will gather in Detroit in June for the 32nd annual INCOSE International Symposium. INCOSE, the International Council on Systems Engineering, is a global professional society for systems engineers, with over 20,000 members and associates, and chapters in over 30 countries.

The symposium theme is The Power of Connection, and features experts in aerospace, energy, healthcare, transportation, the Internet of Things, AI, and Cyber-Physical Systems.

Marilee Wheaton, the INCOSE President says, “INCOSE is excited to bring our Symposium to Detroit, the capital of the automotive industry and I am delighted that Carla Bailo, President, and CEO of the Center for Automotive Research (CAR) and Christopher Davey, Senior Global Manager for Systems Engineering, System Safety, Modelling & Simulation and Senior Technical Leader in Software & Control Systems Engineering at Ford Motor Company are delivering two of our four Keynote addresses.   In addition, the Director of the National Reconnaissance (NRO), Dr. Chris Scolese and Laura Doughty, Director of Peakfield Consultancy Ltd. and currently Head of Culture and Engagement for Sellafield Ltd., complete our distinguished group of keynote speakers.”

Michael Vinarcik, the INCOSE Treasurer and former Michigan Chapter President says, “INCOSE recognizes that the Detroit/Michigan area is home to over 100,000 engineers and the INCOSE Great Lakes Chapters are some of the most active in INCOSE.  We have hosted fourteen regional conferences and look forward to the first International Symposium in Detroit.  This is a great opportunity for Engineers in the local area to get involved in a global symposium, to share our knowledge and experience, and gain an understanding of how Engineers from across the globe are engaged in the digital transformation of systems engineering.  INCOSE’s recently released Vision 2035 leads the way…and events like this help us collectively address the opportunities and challenges inherent in our work.  It’s a great…and challenging time…to be a systems engineer.”

The annual symposium attracts an international mix of professionals at all levels, including practitioners in government and industry, as well as educators and researchers. Attendees include representatives from BAE Systems, BMW, Jaguar Land Rover, GE, IBM, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon Technologies, Medtronic, Network Rail, Roche, Rolls-Royce and many more.

INCOSE offers a variety of options for sponsoring and exhibiting at IS 2022, allowing organizations to build their presence as a supporter of and leader in the profession of systems engineering.

Scheduled keynote topics and speakers include:
Dr. Christopher J. Scolese, Director, National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) and former NASA Chief Engineer. Dr. Scolese provides direction, guidance, and supervision on matters pertaining to the NRO and executes other authorities specifically delegated by the Secretary of Defense and the Director of National Intelligence.
