Jul 31, 2012, 00:00 AM by INCOSE UMS
The Board of Directors of the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) is soliciting nominations
The Board of Directors of the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) is soliciting nominations for Editor-in-Chief of the journal Systems Engineering. Published quarterly by Wiley Blackwell on behalf of INCOSE (www.incose.org), the journal is currently in its fifteenth volume. This position is a four-year, renewable term beginning January 1, 2013.

Systems Engineering is a primary source of multidisciplinary information for the systems engineering and management of products and services, and processes of all types. Systems engineering activities involve the technologies, processes, and systems management approaches needed for: definition of systems, including identification of user requirements and technological specifications; development of systems, including conceptual architectures, tradeoff of design concepts, configuration management during system development, integration of new systems with legacy systems, and integrated product and process development; and deployment of systems, including operational test and evaluation, maintenance over an extended lifecycle, and reengineering. Modern systems, including both products and services, are often very knowledge intensive, and are found in both the public and private sectors.

The journal emphasizes strategic and program management of these, and the information and knowledge base for knowledge principles, knowledge practices, and knowledge perspectives for the engineering of systems. Definitive case studies involving systems engineering practice are especially welcome.

Editor-in-Chief Responsibilities
The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for the technical content and strategic direction of Systems Engineering, oversight of the publication process of the journal, management of the best papers awards, and enhancing the visibility and impact of the journal. Responsibilities include overall coordination and processing of submissions, reviews, and final copy editing; tracking of manuscripts from final copy to publication; coordination of special issues; collaboration with the publisher to market the journal; overseeing an editorial board; promoting the research vision of INCOSE, and providing annual reports to the INCOSE Director of Academic Matters.

The position is a voluntary position and a salary is not provided; however, the publisher provides a stipend to carry out editorial functions.

Editor-in-Chief Qualifications
Qualifications of the Editor-in-Chief of Systems Engineering include:
  • A demonstrated interest in the broad topics covered by the journal
  • A demonstrated record of leadership in research, scholarship and application in one or more of the topical areas covered by the journal
  • Prior editorial experience, dedication and enthusiasm for INCOSE and its journals
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently manage the editorial process
  • Membership in INCOSE
Further information about the journal can be obtained from the journal home page: http://eu.wiley.com/WileyCDA/WileyTitle/productCd-SYS.html
