SAN DIEGO (April 20, 2020) – The International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) congratulates INCOSE Fellow, Dr. Azad M. Madni, for his achievement of being selected for the 2019 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Aerospace and Electronic Systems Pioneer Award.
The Pioneer Award is the highest award given by the IEEE and has been given annually since 1949 to an individual or team for “contributions significant to bringing into being systems that are still in existence today.” These systems fall within the specific areas of interest to the society, that is, electronic or aerospace systems.
Since 2009, Dr. Madni has been a professor and Executive Director of the Systems Architecting and Engineering (SAE) Program at the University of Southern California. He is the founder and CEO of Intelligent Systems Technology, Inc., a high-tech R&D company specializing in model-based engineering and intelligent decision aiding technologies for aerospace.
Dr. Madni is recognized for significantly advancing the ‘professional status’ of INCOSE through sustained contributions. This award will be yet another addition to Dr. Madni’s prestigious collection of awards. He is also the recipient of several international honors from six other professional societies – IEEE, AIAA, ASEE, ASME, IISE, and SDPS.
Dr. Madni was scheduled to receive this award in person at the IEEE Radar Conference in Washington, D.C. in April, however, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the in-person portion of the conference has been canceled, and organizers are currently evaluating options for a virtual conference that would include the presentation.
