The INCOSE Wasatch Chapter celebrated its fourth annual holiday social on Thurs., Dec. 12, at Roosters in Layton. Click here for details and pictures!
The INCOSE Wasatch Chapter celebrated its fourth annual holiday social on Thursday, December 12th, at Roosters Brewery and Pub in Layton, Utah. Those in attendance enjoyed complimentary appetizers, dinner, and drinks--all provided by the chapter.
Paul White, INCOSE Wasatch Chapter President, reflected on the wonderful year, recognized chapter officers and Utah Engineers Council (UEC) award nominees, and presented next year's chapter officers. Paul White thanked Kihomac and Northrop Grumman for their continued sponsorship of the chapter. Also, he noted BAE Systems, Hill Air Force Base, L-3 Harris, and Weber State University as key players in the success of the chapter.
The chapter officers in 2019 served well, specifically:
- Paul White, President
- Angie Harbert, Vice President
- Paul Nelson, Secretary
- John Richards, Treasurer
- Vince Johnston, Director-at-Large
- Ernest Kyed, Director-at-Large
- John McCrea, Director-at-Large
Paul White, Angie Harbert, John Richards, Vince Johnston, Ernest Kyed, and John McCrea will continue in their roles for 2020. Rachel Geerlings will join the team as secretary in 2020, and Paul Nelson will move to a Director-at-Large role.
The chapter is honored to nominate the following individuals for the UEC awards:
- John Metcalf as Engineer of the Year
- Dr. David Wetzel as Engineering Educator of the Year
- John McCrea as Fresh Face Engineer of the Year
Throughout 2019, the chapter held monthly meetings on relevant systems engineering topics at Kihomac. The chapter held its third annual summer event at the Northrop Grumman Conference Center, featuring Jim Nichols, Vice President of Operations at Northrop Grumman, and Dr. John E. Sohl, Professor of Physics at Weber State University, as keynote speakers.
Several individuals from Utah represented the chapter at this year's INCOSE International Workshop (IW) and International Symposium (IS). The chapter was recognized with several performance awards at the IS, namely: Most Improved Chapter, Gold Circle Performance Award, and Outstanding Service (Paul White). The chapter sponsored the Western States Regional Conference (WSRC) in Los Angeles. The chapter was a key participant in the UEC Engineers Week Banquet, August is for Aerospace event with AIAA, and the 68th Annual United Nations (UN) Civil Society Conference in Salt Lake City.
The chapter sponsored a UEC scholarship to Joseph Lyman, a junior Computer Science and Engineering student at The University of Utah.
"It is awesome to realize how much we have grown, the support from our local engineering community, and the great potential that lies ahead of us," said Paul White.
