The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Utah Section and the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) Wasatch chapter hosted August is for Aerospace. The event took place on Thursday, August 31st, at the Roosters Brewing Company and Restaurant in Layton.
Local civic, academic, industry, and government leaders participated in the joint event. The event focused on recruiting and retaining a skilled workforce, particularly for ICBM programs. Guests of honor included State Senators Ann Millner and Todd Weiler, Weber State University President Chuck Wight and College of Engineering, Applied Science and Technology Dean David Ferro, and the Hill Air Force Base Sustainment Center Director of Engineering and Technical Management Jay Fiebig.
The group discussed several relevant topics, including how universities can better prepare engineering graduates, how to attract talented engineers from out of state, and which specialties were most in demand in the local area. Students and young professionals were encouraged to mingle with senior leadership. Roosters provided hors d’oeuvres.
All in all, the event was a great success! Many in attendance independently expressed hope that the August is for Aerospace will become an annual event going forward.
