As you are all aware, over the last few weeks, the COVID-19 Coronavirus has become a global topic of concern. It is very much a dynamic situation of which we all need to be vigilant in our monitoring of this global crisis. The World Health Organisation (WHO) is a trusted authority and provides regular updates and recommendations. Likewise, some countries have specific national recommendations in place that must be adhered to. As such I urge all members to take note of the recommended precautions from WHO and the Health Authorities of your own country.
As a global organisation INCOSE is operating and focusing on its priorities tempered by concern for the health of our members during this challenging time. We continue to promote and support remote meetings, utilising technology to support such events. Should any member need this capability for an INCOSE activity and is not sure what to do, please contact [email protected] directly and help will be provided.
We are mindful of making decisions on upcoming INCOSE events. To date we have maintained our course and supported events where the impact has been minimal and aligns with the host country’s recommendations. In some cases, predominantly in Asia, we have rescheduled events to be held later in the year if possible.
Our showcase event and the premier Systems Engineering conference in the world, the International Symposium, IS2020 is making excellent progress as it prepares to welcome all participants to Cape Town in July 2020. We are keeping a watchful eye on any recommendations for the region that we may need to address in our preparation. However, at this stage it is “full steam ahead” – there are no plans to alter this course. We expect to hold a very informative and enjoyable symposium.
Lastly, to all our members, you remain our top priority and we are committed to serve you to the best of our ability. And to our members and families living in the impacted regions you have our support and solidarity.
All the best,
Kerry Lunney
