SysML has reached a key miletone in its steps towards adoption as the SysML Submission Team chaired by Sandy Friedenthal, and SysML Partners chaired by Cris Kobryn, both submitted drafts of their SysML Specification to the Object Management Group (OMG) on 14 November 2005. The teams will present their submissions to the OMG the week of 5 December 2005 in Burlingame, Massachusetts. A vote to adopt is planned to occur at the following OMG meeting the week of 13 February 2006.

 

INCOSE and the OMG will perform an evaluation of the two submissions to support the final selection through the OMG. The evaluation results will be made available to the SE DSIG at the OMG Burlingame meeting on 6 December. The evaluation will focus on the relative strengths and weaknesses or each submission to address the requirements and evaluation criteria specified in the UML for Systems Engineering (SE) RFP. The results will be made available to OMG members as an input to their evaluation, and as a planning input to future versions of SysML following adoption. SysML is a general purpose graphical modeling language for specifying, analyzing, designing, and verifying complex systems that may include hardware, software, information, personnel, procedures, and facilities. The language represents a subset of UML with extensions needed to satisfy the requirements of the UML for SE RFP, which was jointly developed by the OMG, INCOSE, and the AP233 WG and issued in March 2003.
