Join us 5-6pm Wednesday (March 6th) for a virtual presentation and discussion on the risk management approach used during the Melbourne Metro Tunnel Project (MTP) Platform Screen Doors (PSDs) delivery to mitigate the risk of passenger entrapment. This is a free session hosted by our Victoria chapter and all members are welcome. The MTP is building two new 9km tunnels through the heart of the CBD. The MTP will use PSDs in all the five new underground stations, aligning the MTP with other similar projects/ metro style systems in use throughout the world. The doors will improve the customer experience by improving safety and security (restricting track access and the likelihood of passengers being struck by the train), and also improving climate control within the stations. However, during the reference design, it was identified that the use of PSDs might introduce a potential hazard of entrapment between the PSDs and train doors and the body of the train, and this hazard and the associated risk would be assessed and managed during the delivery phase. In accordance with Australian Rail Safety National Law and following the guidance of EN 17168, this presentation identifies the three entrapment hazards relating to PSDs and considers how they were identified and mitigated as part of the SFAIRP process managed by Rail Projects Victoria and Metro Trains Melbourne.
