Clinical Alarm Safety Symposium

Herndon , United States

Chronic alarm fatigue plagues many hospitals, with alarm fatigue being an issue in at least one unit. Clinical alarms are the result of a complex chain of events, often starting with the selection of sensors, alarm configuration, patient evaluation, the actual generation of alarms, and then managing the reliable and timely response to those alarms. Because of this complexity, it is little wonder that health care providers and industry have struggled for many years to improve the sensitivity and specificity of clinical alarms and to make the response to alarms more reliable and timely.

The AAMI/FDA/ECRI Alarms Summit in 2011, and the most recent Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goal on Alarm Safety for hospitals highlights the continued need for education and a sharing of information and best practices for clinical alarm safety.

The Clinical Alarm Safety Symposium will explore alarm safety challenges, best practices and technological solutions.
