Abstract: Brian Moon will present an overview of Applied Concept Mapping and its use cases in systems engineering. Concept maps are a mechanism for organizing and representing knowledge. These maps utilize nodes to capture concepts, and lines or arrows to represent relationships between concepts. Concept maps are used to both capture and communicate the collective understanding of teams. Concept maps are being applied in an increasing number of domains, in part due to their relatively easy-to-understand syntax (unlike SysML!).
Join the INCOSE Cleveland-Northern Ohio Chapter as we learn the basics of concept mapping and discuss its potential applications to Model-Based Systems Engineering. Presentation to start at 6:00 PM.
About the Presenter: Brian Moon is Chief Technology Officer for Perigean Technologies LLC. A leading practitioner and researcher in the field of expertise management, Mr. Moon applies diagrammatic and naturalistic interviewing techniques across a spectrum of knowledge management and design problems, from the elicitation and capture of expert knowledge to the development of decision support and training systems that enable its effective and efficient transfer. In particular, he is widely recognized for his innovative applications of Concept Mapping, which are highlighted in the edited volume, Applied Concept Mapping: Capturing, Analyzing, and Organizing Knowledge. His clients have included Westinghouse Electric Company, Big Heart Pet Brands, MARS, Kraft Food Group, Procter and Gamble, The Lubrizol Corporation, Department of Defense, New York Power Authority, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Sandia National Laboratories. Mr. Moon is also Adjunct Faculty for Kent State University’s Information Architecture and Knowledge Management, Online Master of Science program.
